Welcome to the Norman Knight Hyperbaric Medicine Center at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. We have designed this web section in an effort to provide you with useful information about hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) and its many benefits. It is our hope this will answer the many questions you may have about hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Our clinical facility is located on the 11th floor of the Infirmary. We offer three specially outfitted and state-of-the-art hyperbaric chambers that can safely and effectively treat all types of patients.

Treatment is provided by our team of physicians and nurses who have trained in hyperbaric medicine at American Medical Association/Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society-approved courses. Consultation and case management services are available on a 24-hour basis to treat victims of carbon monoxide poisoning, smoke inhalation, gas embolisms, scuba diving injuries, and life-threatening infections.

Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Norman Knight, a Boston resident, the Center has now grown, both in size and number of chambers, to accommodate the increased use of hyperbaric oxygen treatments for a wide range of medical conditions. Mr. Knight has given and pledged more than $1 million dollars to hyperbaric oxygen medicine-related causes at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Mr. Knight has enabled the Infirmary to extend its mission - providing the best possible care to our patients.

Our Facility

Located at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, in Boston, the Norman Knight Hyperbaric Medicine Center was opened in 1995. The Infirmary is the first hospital in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Thanks to the determination and dedication of Mr. Norman Knight to the firefighters and their families, the Norman Knight Hyperbaric Medicine Center has grown from a single, to a multiple chamber fully modernized unit.
