The Claes Dohlman Society is comprised of all previous and current fellows who have trained at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Schepens Eye Research Institute under Professor Claes Dohlman, recipients of the Claes Dohlman Society Award and distinguished individuals who have made contributions to the Society to help promote excellence in the training of cornea fellows. The Claes Dohlman Society Award was established in 2000 to recognize outstanding fellows training in the area of Cornea, Refractive Surgery and External Diseases. The award is available to any fellow training in the aforementioned fields of Ophthalmology who is currently in a cornea fellowship.
The award will be granted to an individual or individuals through a comprehensive and highly competitive application process. The number of awards each year will be based upon the amount of funding received. The award will be presented annually at the gathering of the Claes Dohlman Society during the American Academy of Ophthalmology Meeting. Recipients will be asked to attend the Society Dinner during the AAO meeting to accept the award.
All applications will be reviewed by a designated selection committee comprised of physicians, educators and scientists. The selection committee will rank all applicants and make final recommendations to the Board of Directors. Recipient(s) will be announced in early summer and the formal presentation of the award will be made at the Academy meeting that fall.
