Tissue and stem cell therapies hold enormous promise for repairing ocular tissues. Investigators in the Ocular Regenerative Medicine Institute (ORMI) lead the effort to develop revolutionary methods to regenerate eye tissues for various diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma, corneal disease, and ocular cancer. They significantly advanced the understanding of tissue and stem cell transplantation in the retina—particularly in terms of graft survival and the formation of functional neural connections after transplantation. Our investigators are also developing biomaterials that can be used for delivering neuroprotective agents or stem cells to the retina; the engineered biomaterials have also been shown to promote survival and functional growth of neurons after transplantation.

Genetics & Regenerative Medicine of Eye Disease Seminar Series

This series is organized jointly by the Ocular Regenerative Medicine Institute and the Ocular Genomics Institute, and addresses topics in genetics, gene therapy and regenerative medicine relevant to ophthalmology and beyond. The seminars feature a scholar of international reputation for a one hour presentation following an introduction by the faculty host. On occasion, the organization may schedule a Late Breaking Seminar session to highlight recent publications and innovations in the field.

Course Directors: Luk H. Vandenberghe, PhD, and Neena B. Haider, PhD
