Mosher Laryngology Research Laboratory
Opened in 1991, the laryngeal anatomy and physiology laboratory conducts basic research in laryngology. Together with the Voice and
Speech laboratory, it performs grant-funded research that focuses primarily on normal and disordered voice and speech production. Projects
range from basic studies of laryngeal electrophysiology and computer modeling of vocal cord vibration to clinically-based investigations of the
efficacy of methods used to treat voice disorders (including the development of new laryngeal surgical approaches. Both laboratories are
involved in a major effort to develop an improved artificial electrolarynx, as part of the W.M. Keck Neural Prosthesis Research Center.
