The Department of Radiology offers specialty diagnostic imaging that emphasizes both magnetic resonance and CT scanning. We have developed state-of-the-art, high-resolution imaging protocols to define the fine anatomic structures associated with otolaryngological and ophthalmological problems. Most of the imaging we perform relates to the eyes, ears, nose, head, neck, and brain.
Included services are diagnostic radiology, Computerized Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). In addition, the department is responsible for the associated use of drugs and contrast materials needed for performance of these studies. Service is confined to the specialty areas of Otolaryngology and Ophthalmology and associated general medicine areas. The department also provides services for referred patients from MEEI community-based physicians, Harvard Vanguard, Massachusetts General Hospital and the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center.
MEEI's Department of Radiology prides itself in its personalized care and service.
Examples of this include:
A patient or the physician's office may call and schedule a time at the number below under Contact Information .
All requested studies must have the appropriate requisition form completed prior to the appointment time and if a referral is needed, this too must be received for every study requested.
The list of available forms includes:
The website, www.radiologyinfo.com has specific patient information about the various diagnostic exams discussed below.
Each request for a study (XR, MRI, CT) must have an individual requisition. Mail, fax, or hand deliver these requisitions for studies to the Radiology Department on the sixth floor of the Infirmary. Arrange all other imaging procedures through the department.
All orders to radiology also require a valid signature from the referring physician. Requests submitted without a valid signature may not be carried out.
For your convenience, appointment card reminders can be printed from this document, to help patients remember when and where their appointment is.
To assure that insurance claims are not rejected for inadequate or inappropriate diagnosis, please make sure that clinical information and insurance information is filled out thoroughly and correctly.
To help physicians know insurance plan referral and authorization requirements, a list of insurance companies with the requirements of each is available.
CT imaging provides cross-sectional images of body tissues and organs in specific areas in the body by using computer processing and x-ray equipment (a state of the art multi-detector scanner). Although we specialize in studies involving the head and neck, we also perform various routine exams including, but not limited to (chest, abdomen, extremities, spine, etc.).
All can be performed using axial and coronal reconstructions and/or 3D views.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses radio waves and a magnetic field to generate high quality, detailed images of the brain, spinal cord, bones, joints, soft tissues and blood vessels. although we specialize in studies involving the head and neck, we also perform various routine exams including, but not limited to (chest, abdomen, extremities, spine).
All Can Be Performed Using Sagittal, Axial, Coronal And Oblique Views.
Our technologists use a computerized radiography (CR) system to provide state of the art digital images utilizing the alara principal (as low as reasonably achievable) to minimize exposures. Although we specialize in studies involving the head and neck, we also perform various routine exams including, but not limited to (chest, abdomen, extremities, spine ).

Fluoroscopic Procedures:
The degree to which we exceed the expectations of our patients and physicians is the key to our success. Our innovative technology and progressive attitude attract patients, staff and physicians to the Infirmary. It is the personalized care and service we provide that will assure they return to us and recommend the Infirmary to others.
