Billing

Patients who are seen at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI) generally receive two bills - one from the hospital (MEEI) and one from the physician group, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Associates, Inc. (MEEA).

• The hospital charges a facility fee which covers the costs of running the facility. The current facility fee is $35.00. Some health plans cover the facility fee. The hospital bill may also include charges for diagnostic and laboratory tests, radiology services, prescription drugs, and supplies used in patient care. If you are seen in the Emergency Room you may be asked to pay applicable co-payments for Emergency Services at the time of the visit.
• The physician bill for professional services will be sent by the physician group practice, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Associates, Inc., (MEEA). If your health plan has an office co-payment you may be asked to pay that amount at the time of your appointment.
• The hospital also bills for professional Radiology services.

At the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, we understand that many of the services you receive may not be covered by your insurance company. We also recognize that all of our patients do not have current health insurance. It is our goal to help patients find the coverage that best meets their individual financial needs.

With that in mind our Financial Counselors are available to you with all of the latest information on financial assistance and insurance options that may be available to you as our patient.
